16 acquitted of Maoist charges in Orissa

A local court in Orissa's Mayurbhanj district today acquitted 16 persons, including 13 tribals, jailed since 2007 on charges of Maoist activities.
    
The verdict was pronounced by additional district judge Mihir Ranjan Parida who ruled that they were being acquitted for lack of evidence.

All the 16 faced charges of killing forester Rabindra Patra on May 8, 2007 and explosion of a land mine that left five police personnel critically injured next day.
