150 Asaram disciples get bail

Justice HB Antani of Gujarat high court has ordered the release of all 150 disciples of Asaram Bapu in the case of rioting in Gandhinagar. The disciples had approached the high court after their bail application was turned down by the sessions court of Gandhinagar.
The 150 disciples of Asaram Bapu were arrested during a rally in Gandhinagar earlier this month. During the rally, some disciples started pelting stones on police personnel, injuring few of them, including the superintendent of police.

During hearing, the government pleader contended that the disciples had attacked the policemen as part of a pre-planned conspiracy and they should not be released on bail. But the counsel for the disciples submitted that “they are not involved in the case and there are not direct evidences against them. Actually, some other persons were involved in the attack.’’
