In yet another case of a student becoming, apparently, a victim of exam pressure, a 12-year-old girl committed suicide in Amraiwadi on Thursday.

Chandni Prajapati hanged herself with her dupatta from the hook of the ceiling at her home.

Chandni, a resident of Dhiraj Housing in Amraiwadi, took the extreme step as she hadn't fared well in her annual exams. Khokhra police have registered a case of suicide.

Khokhra Police Sub Inspector (PSI) CD Ninama, who is investigating the case, said, "The girl took the extreme step as she didn't do well in her exams."

A Class V student of Dhruv Education school, Chandni was the eldest of the three children of Gabbar Singh Prajapati, an auto-rickshaw driver who had gone to Uttar Pradesh, his native place.

Chandni's younger sister, Neelam Prajapati (10) and her brother Aashu Prajapati (8) are also students of New Kalyan High School.
New Kalyan High School principal Dinesh Patel said, "Chandni was always active and good in studies. She was a well-behaved girl."

On Thursday morning, Chandni's mother Rekha Prajapati had taken Aashu for ayurvedic treatment in Panchkuva after he had developed a swelling on his face. When they returned, they saw a crowd gathered outside their home and Rekha learned that Chandni had taken her life.

Khokhra police, who reached the spot immediately, took the statement of the girl's mother, who told them that she had ended her life as she failed to do well in her exams.
