12 hurt as pro-industry people clash with BJP workers in Orissa

At least 12 people, including four scribes, were injured today when pro-industry activists clashed with BJP workers during a visit by party state president Jual Oram to Kalinga Nagar industrial complex. 

The incident took place when Oram along with about 300 supporters of his attempted to enter the steel hub by defying
prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC, police said.

BJP leaders claimed to have gone to the area to see condition of the tribals, injured during a clash with police last week. Four persons had been injured in the clash.

"Pro-industry supporters mostly belonging to ruling BJD. They attacked my vehicle damaging its wind screen besides misbehaving with women leaders and activists," Oram told PTI.

Today's clash occurred at a place barely 100 meter away from the Kalinga Nagar police station, but "no policeman had come to our rescue," Oram alleged.

Before returning to the state capital, Oram filed an FIR at Jahapura police station against pro-industry activists. 

"Slogan shouting activists assaulted us with sticks and pelted stones. They have taken away our cameras, mobile phones, cash, gold chains and rings", a journalist said from the spot.

"After reporting the incident to police at Kalinga Nagar-II police station, I am undergoing treatment at Danagadi hospital", he said.
