The intervening night between Thursday and Friday will culminate an agonising wait for the families of 12 Indian diamond businessmen who were freed by the Chinese court in Shenzhen last month. While the 10 traders from Mumbai are expected to arrive on Friday, the two from diamond city will land two days later.

The deportation process of 12 Indian traders was cleared after no appeal was made against them in the Chinese court. The court in Shenzhen had clarified that if any appeal will be made against the freed traders, they won’t be allowed to leave the country. However, an appeal against the 13th trader, identified as Taral Parikh, who was freed by court in Shenzhen, was made. His deportation to India, has therefore, been halted.

Sources said the 12 will be brought to Hong Kong and from there they will take a flight to Mumbai. The Chinese government allowed their deportation late on Wednesday evening after the Indian Commission in China completed all the procedures. Sources said traders boarded the Mumbai-bound flight on Thursday and are expected to land in India by 1 am on Friday.

The traders have been identified as Samir Shah, Jigar Mehta, Nehal Shah, Parth Shah, Shripal Parikh, Shrenik Parikh, Vishal Mehta, Pritesh Doshi, Mahendra Jogani, Ankit Shah and Viral Shah. Parth Shah and Samir Shah, from Surat, will reach after two days even as the rest will arrive in Mumbai on Friday.

Dinesh Navadia, president of Surat Diamond Association said, “We have learnt that Samir and Parth are going to arrive in Surat after two to three days. Their family members are in Shenzhen at present and will return to India with them.”
