In a brutal incident, an 11-year-old boy was kidnapped in broad daylight in Vyara and his dead body was found in a field, 24 hours later. The kidnappers had demanded `10 lakh ransom from the family, but killed the child. While the abduction and murder has shocked people here, the police are clueless about culprits.

Kalpesh Patil, a resident of Zanda Chowk in Vyara and class V student at a local government school, went missing on Friday afternoon. Kalpesh’s parents learnt about his abduction when kidnappers called his uncle, after one hour. Speaking in Hindi, they informed the family that Kalpesh was with them and if they wanted him alive, they would have to pay `10 lakh. The frightened parents first initiated a search and after failing to find Kalpesh, informed the police.

Police started search operations but till late in the night were unable to trace him. On Saturday afternoon, a child’s dead body was found lying in the fields at Jaspore village, three kilometres from Vyara.

The child was identified as Kalpesh and police rushed to the spot and started their investigations. Cops found empty beer cans, snacks and other food beside Kaplesh’s dead body.

Kalpesh’s death shocked police officials, who seemed totally clueless about the motive for the act and the people who executed the ghastly crime. A special team has been formed by Surat district police and Tapi police and police squads have been sent to areas located between south Gujarat and Maharastara border.
