11 killed in road accident in Uttarkashi

An ex-gratia of Rs50,000 each to the next of the kin of the deceased and Rs25,000 to the injured has been announced by the chief minister.

Eleven people were killed and one was injured when a jeep in which they were travelling fell into a gorge at Nalupani Dharasu in Uttarkashi district today, officials said here.

The jeep, which was carrying a total of 12 passengers, was going to Uttarkashi from Barkot when the mishap occurred.

Eleven passengers died on the spot, they said, adding the jeep driver, who was injured in the incident, has been admitted to a nearby hospital. The cause of the accident was not immediately known.

Uttarakhand chief minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank have expressed grief over the accident and directed the officials to provide medical care to the injured.
