Aniket Parmar, battling bone cancer, had a wish-to be a police inspector-which was fulfiled after Make a Wish foundation got in touch with police officials.
Shahibaug police station got a visitor on Tuesday. With a star pinned on his shoulder by the city police commissioner, he strode in amid salutes by jawans at the police headquarters. He received the baton and took charge of his position as inspector at the police station. Sounds like routine? Not really.
The police inspector in talk here, Aniket Parmar, is a 10-year-old boy, battling bone cancer for a while now. He is being treated at Civil Hospital. His father is an employee of a private firm.
Aniket had a wish-to be a police inspector-which was fulfiled after Make a Wish foundation got in touch with police officials and told them about it.
The foundation first contacted PI (training) FM Qureshi, who put them in touch with JCP-special branch, Shamsher Singh. The senior cop then went ahead to help make it a grand affair for Aniket. City police commissioner SK Saikia too was present at the ceremony where the child was 'anointed' as a police inspector.
"It is nice to know that children wish to be cops. I am sure such events have happened before at the police station level but never on such a grand scale as here today. In the end, we are glad that we could be of help in fulfilling the wishes of a child," said Singh.
The officials took the boy to the Shahibaug police station. The little cop even took down the complaint of a person as the in-charge PI for a few hours. Roopande Shah, programme co-ordinator for the foundation, said that 95% of the children express a wish to possess an object. "It could be anything from a laptop to a toy. Only 5% wish to go somewhere, meet someone, or be someone," said Shah.
