"Supreme Court is seriously thinking to fill the vacant post of justices in Gujarat high court." This was stated by chief justice of India, KG Balakrishnan, while speaking at a book release function organised at the AMA on Sunday.

The book Legal Legends of Gujarat by Tushar Vyas reflects the journey of 10 legal luminaries of Gujarat who have created a benchmark in the legal profession. It is a compendium of their lives and contribution to society. "The book would be yardstick for law students as it covers the various social, financial and political aspects which these legal luminaries have faced during tenure," said Justice Balakrishnan.

Former Justice of Supreme Court, PN Bhagwati, who too was present on the occasion, is among those legal activists whose liberal interpretation of the fundamental rights helped bring many rights within the definition of personal liberty, an act that augmented a new era of liberalism.

Speaking on the occasion, he said, " Law and judiciary are missions for us." It was Justice Bhagwati who started giving free legal aid to the poor litigants and made it a state duty to provide free legal aid.

Earlier, in the day CJI Balakrishnan, attended the valedictory session of  three-day West Zone Judicial Conference on 'Enhancing Timely Justice: Strengthening Criminal Justice Administration' conference.

The conference was being held under the aegis of the Gujarat high court, Gujarat State Judicial Academy and National Judicial Academy at SPIPA from March 26.
