About 10 Indian fishermen were reportedly attacked by Sri Lankan naval personnel near the Palk Straits, officials said.

The naval personnel also damaged the fishing nets and took away catch worth Rs one lakh of the fishermen from Kottaipattinam coastal village, who had put out to sea last night, they said.

Meanwhile a report from Rameswaram said 800 mechanised boats in the island did not put out to sea as fishermen continued their strike in protest against 'repeated attacks'on them by the Sri Lankan navy.
