It seems that the much talked about Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) to take place on June 12 has been welcomed by aspiring teachers, if the number of candidates who have registered for the test is anything to go by.

Secretary of State Examination Board, BC Solanki, said, "A whopping 1,10,882 candidates have registered for the exam. Out of them, 6,000 candidates are from Ahmedabad city and 5,012 from Ahmedabad rural."

This is the first time that the state education department has introduced Teachers Eligibility Test (TET). Clearing this test has been made mandatory for those seeking jobs as teachers in class I to VIII.

The highest number of candidates, 9,946, has been registered from Sabarkantha, while the lowest, 625 will appear for the state-level test from the Dangs.

Interestingly, all the 6,000 candidates registered from Ahmedabad city will appear for languages and no candidate from the city will appear for mathematics and science subjects. On the other hand, from the whole state, 12, 038 candidates are appearing to seek recruitment as math and science teacher.

For Ahmedabad city, there will be 16 buildings and 200 blocks where the 6,000 candidates of the city will take the test. Similarly, for Ahmedabad rural, there will be 12 buildings-seven for language exams and five for math and science. These 12 buildings will have 168 total blocks-107 for language and the rest 61 for math and science.

TET qualification has been made mandatory for recruitment as upper primary teacher in government as well private schools. The paper will have two parts. While part-I will be compulsory for all the candidates, part-II will have two sections, one for languages and the other for math and science.

A candidate will have to select his/her relevant section in the second part. Both the parts will be of 75 marks each. Also, the answer-sheets will be OMR (optical mark reader) sheets.  The score of the TET will be valid for five years.
