A chilling video of 24-year-old Riffleman Aurangzeb, who was abducted and killed by the militants on Thursday, has sent shock waves in the Kashmir Valley.

The rifleman of 44 Rashtriya Riffles (RR) was abducted when terrorists intercepted a private car at Kalampora village in the Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district. The gunmen took Aurangzeb along with them, while the driver was released without any harm. Later, Aurangzeb’s bullet-riddled body was recovered from Pulwama’s Gusso village.

Aurangzeb was en route home in Poonch to celebrate Eid with his family when he was abducted. The incident occurred in the morning when troops stopped a car at Shadimarg and asked the driver to drop the soldier near Shopian for his onward journey via Mughal road.

A day after the killing, the terrorists released the 1.15 minute video in which they are heard questioning the Aurangzeb about the encounters. “Yes I am rifleman and my duty was on the post,” Auragzeb was seen replying to the attacker’s question, who was not visible in the video.

Terrorists were heard asking whether he was the guard of Major Rohit Shukla who was injured during an encounter in which Hizbul Mujahedeen Commander Sameer Ahmad Bhat alias Sameer Tiger was killed on April 30. “Who desecrated the bodies of Wasim and Talha”, asked the terrorists. “No I did not”, replied the Aurangzeb.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army today paid befitting tribute to two of its comrades, who made the supreme sacrifice on 14 June 2018 in the Kashmir Valley.

In a solemn ceremony at Badami Bagh cantonment, Lt Gen AK Bhatt, Chinar Corps Commander and all ranks, paid homage to the martyrs on behalf of a proud nation. Representatives from other security agencies also joined in paying their last respects to the martyrs.

“Riffleman Aurangzeb sustained multiple bullet injuries in a dastardly act wherein he was kidnapped and killed by the terrorists in Gasu village of Pulwama enroute his home on leave to celebrate Eid with his family. Coming from Village Salani in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, the soldier was 24 years of age and had joined Army in 2012. He is survived by his wife, parents and three brothers”, said Colonel Rajesh Kalia, defence spokesman at Srinagar.

Riffleman Manvendra Singh sustained bullet injuries during the fierce operation in Panar Forests of Bandipora district in which two terrorists were eliminated.

“He was provided immediate first aid and evacuated to 92 Base Hospital but, unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries. Late Rfn Manvendra Singh, 30 years of age, had joined Army in 2008 and hailed from Village Kabiltha in Rudraprayag, Uttrakhand. He is survived by his wife, a daughter and a son”, said Colonel Kalia.

The defence spokesman said the mortal remains of the martyrs were flown for the last rites to their native places, where they would be laid to rest with full military honours. In this hour of grief, the Army stands in solidarity with the bereaved families of the martyrs and remains committed to their dignity and well being.
