The India Meteorological Department (IMD) highlighted on Friday that dense fog is predicted to cover most of Northern India, including Punjab, Haryana, south-east Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, western Bihar, and north-west Rajasthan over the next two days.

IMD also issued a 'cold-day' alert for the Delhi-NCR region. In its advisory, the foggy conditions may affect flight operations, vehicular movement and train operations in the region.

Parts of Uttar Pradesh as well as a few isolated areas in north-west Rajasthan, Punjab, south-east Uttarakhand, Assam, Haryana, and Delhi saw some moderate fog earlier on Friday night.

The weather on December 30, 2023, is predicted to be partly cloudy with temperatures between 19 and 10 degrees Celsius. However, the morning is likely to be moderate to dense fog. A combination of atmospheric conditions is indicated by the partly overcast skies and fog, with the fog perhaps affecting visibility in the early hours of the day. When organising their activities, locals and visitors should exercise caution, particularly in the morning, and take the foggy circumstances into account.

The IMD issued a "cold-day" notice, predicting "dense to very dense fog" in Delhi-NCR for the next two days. Specifically, a cold day occurs when a location experiences two days in a row with a minimum temperature below 10 degrees Celsius and a maximum temperature (also known as the day temperature) that is 4.5 to 6.4 degrees below average.

On Friday, the national capital's highest temperature was 19.8 degrees Celsius, which is a little colder than the season's normal. At 4 pm, the IMD reported the 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) to be 382, which falls into the "very poor" category.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", and 401 and 500 "severe".
