Union Information and Broadcasting ministry signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Wednesday with the Goa state government, declaring the state as a permanent venue for the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), an annual event held there since the last decade. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar and Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar signed an MoU in Panaji establishing Goa as the permanent venue for the film festival which was shifted from New Delhi in 2004.

"The Government of India and the Government of Goa have signed an MoU making the state as the permanent venue for the IFFI. It will no more be an ad hoc arrangement. Goa Chief Minister has taken a lot of interest in designing permanent facilities to be created for hosting the festival," Javadekar said after signing the document.

The minister said that IFFI has been successfully organised in Goa for the last ten years and it has matured enough to become a permanent venue. "Goa will soon become internationally famous like Cannes and other film festival venues. This is a young venue but it will achieve desired result very soon," he said.

IFFI will be held from November 20 to November 30 in Goa this year. Javadekar said that the movie selection process for IFFI is on.

"The steering committee met today. This time, we have a lot of experts from the film fraternity. There will be a face lift for the festival," he said. He announced that there would be a dedicated section for Konkani-Marathi cinema in IFFI 2014.

"There will also be section for North Eastern films. For the first time in New Delhi, our ministry had organised a North Eastern film festival which received tremendous response in terms of participation by crowds and filmmakers," he said.
