Subramanian Swamy wants JNU temporarily closed

Calling for a temporary shutting down of the campus, Swamy said, "JNU should be closed for four months. And then there should be an inventory check at all the hostels." Swamy further suggested, "All those students who have not cleared their undergraduate courses for more than four years should be rusticated and those who have not completed their masters for more than three years should be expelled."

Subramanian Swamy is batting for a temporary closure of the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus and calling for a need for a complete stock taking before making a fresh start. The BJP MP also holds the view that the security coordination of the campus should be given over to the paramilitary forces.

While the sedition charges slapped on eight students have received criticism from several quarters, Swamy feels that those raising anti-India slogans should not be allowed to walk free. "Raising slogans for Bharat ki barbadi in my opinion is seditious. Rest is for the courts to decide," said Swamy. Swamy was speaking on the sidelines of the talk on the Ram Temple at Ayodhya organised by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in Delhi.

A staunch critic of the left wing ideology, Swamy went on to blame Jawaharlal Nehru, the Congress and the left for leading the country to such kinds of protests by students. "What is being taught to our students creates a sense of inferiority about our own culture and is causing us to drift us towards slavery which we are not able to perceive," he said. Swamy also blamed it on the education curriculum that has been adopted by institutions. "The syllabus being taught to our students is full of flaws and needs to be corrected," he said.

Crackdown by the police in the JNU hostel to arrest the student union leader may have led to a countrywide protest, but Swamy feels that the security of the campus should be tightened to ensure incidents like these are not repeated. "In my view the security of the campus should be handed over to the CRPF. A permanent security station should be created."

Swamy was speaking on the issue of building a Ram Temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya. Swamy informed that he will be moving the Supreme Court on Tuesday. "I am filing a writ petition in the court requesting it to hear the matter on a day-to-day basis," he said.
