While the elders sparred, Lok Sabha witnessed moments of camaraderie in wording the resolution to put pressure on Pakistan on reversing the bail granted to Mumbai terror attack mastermind Zaki-ur Rehman Lakhvi.

It was Congress leader and head of the parliamentary panel on external affairs Shashi Tharoor, who volunteered to draft the resolution, after prime minister Narendra Modi said India had "strongly conveyed" to Pakistan its opposition to bail for Lakhvi.

Cutting across the political aisle, literally, Tharoor, after showing the draft of the resolution to leader of Congress in the House Mallikarjun Kharge, handed it over to external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj. BJP veteran LK Advani made some changes. The prime minister, who had a word with Tharoor as he walked towards the treasury benches, left it to them to finalise the draft. It was shown to parliamentary affairs minister Venkaiah Naidu, before Speaker Sumitra Mahajan read it out.

The resolution asked the government to take "all steps in its power, including through its relations with foreign countries, to put pressure on Pakistan to bring this matter to a satisfactory conclusion."

Earlier, Modi said the bail granted to Lakhvi on Thursday has come as a "shock" to all those who believe in humanity world over, particularly after every Indian shared the pain of the massacre of Pakistani children in Peshawar on Tuesday, as members spoke in one voice condemning the development.

The prime minister also said that India had immediately conveyed its sentiments in the "strongest terms" to Pakistan and assured members that any future action will take into account the agitated feelings expressed by them.

Referring to the massacre in a school in Peshawar, he said, "The pain felt in India was no less than that felt in Pakistan. Every Indian had tears in eyes... But immediately after that this kind of behaviour has come as shock to all those who believe in humanity."

External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, who will make a detailed statement on Monday, said "We reject this argument that there is lack of adequate evidence." She said by allowing bail to Lakhvi, Pakistan has made mockery of its pledge to fight terrorism "without any condition or discrimination".
