Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Sunday singed an MoU with a private firm for a 1,000-mega watt solar power plant to be built at a cost of Rs 7,000 crore in Baori near here and laid the foundation of a slew of other projects.

Raje, who was on her first visit to Jodhpur after taking charge as chief minister, also laid the foundation stones of a 100-MW solar plant, a mega drinking water project, and inaugurated a grid sub-station.

"We are committed to creating an investor-friendly environment in the state, and we are progressing towards achieving the target of 25,000 MW solar energy generation in the next five years," she said while singing the MoU with Azure Power. The chief minister assured the people of her government's resolve to develop the state on all fronts. She also promised the investors of every possible help from her government.

Raje said the immediate challenge before the state was energy security and climate change and the government is determined to deal with them. She also laid the foundation stone of a 100-MW solar energy plant to be set up by the same company.

Spread over 725 acres of land at Hardhani and Nandia Kalan in Jodhpur's Baori, the plant will supply electricity to 1,00,000 households and create an estimated 1,500 jobs. The project is expected to be completed before April next year.

The chief minister also laid the foundation stone for a mega water project in Tiwari tehsil of Jodhpur. To be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 396.63 crore, the Panchla-Ghewra-Chirai project would address the drinking water needs of 59 villages and 892 hamlets.

Raje also inaugurated a 400 KV GSS at Kankani village near Jodhpur. To be set up at a cost of Rs 1,062 crore, the GSS would be completed in next 2 years by the Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited. The state government had requested Union Energy Minister Piyush Goyal to write off a power debt of Rs 77,000 crore, she said. Later in the day, Raje left for New Delhi.
