The government will move 37 new Bills for introduction and taking up pending Bills for consideration and passing during the Winter session of Parliament. New bills to be introduced include Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Ordinance 2014, amendments to the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, Motor Vehicles Act, Negotiable Instruments Act, Textile Undertakings (Nationalisation) Laws (Amendment and Validation) Ordinance 2014

Govenment's priority
Prime minister Narendra Modi is determined to push for the reform legislations such as the Insurance Bill and Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill. Govt also wants an amendment in the Lokpal Act and the law governing the functioning of CBI to ensure that there is no requirement of "quorum" in the respective selection panels for choosing the ombudsman or the CBI chief
What's Congress stand?
Although ambivalent, Congress is ready to help on key bills, with a caveat that its suggestions are incorporated
No business
The Lok Sabha will have no business on the opening day as it would adjourn in memory of two sitting MPs - Hemendra Chandra Singh of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Kapil Krishna Thakur of Trinamul Congress - who died since the last session
New members
Five new members are slated to take oath on the opening day and they include Dr (Mrs) Pritam Gopinath Munde from Maharashtra and Mrs Ranjanaben Bhat from Gujarat, both from the BJP.

In the 245-seat upper House, the BJP has only 55 members. With the opposition parties, including those from Janata family indicating a united face along with the Left parties and the Congress, the government is heading for a tough session
