Bank branches on Saturday saw orderly queues following restrictions imposed by the government, but queues at ATMs persisted. People have started withdrawing money from micro ATMs, installed in places like Bhopal.

All banks served only their respective customers, but this restriction was not applicable for senior citizens.

Meanwhile, with a united opposition looking to corner the government in Rajya Sabha on demonetization issue, the BJP on Saturday issued a whip to its members, asking them to be present in the House for three days starting Monday.

The ruling NDA lacks a majority in the Rajya Sabha and BJP believes that a maximum presence of its members would be required in case of any voting.

The party top brass also asked its MPs to publicise benefits of the demonetization and also to counter the opposition’s charges.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the government is taking every step possible to eradicate the evil of black money.

“The government was well prepared and is closely monitoring the ground situation on a daily basis, based on which minor tweaks are made,” she said.
