The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans on introducing a ranking system for over 300 toll plazas across the country to ‘create competitive atmosphere’ and improve road amenities for users.

As part of the plan, NHAI officials will be visiting two toll plazas each. They will check issues that affect highway users, such as ease of tolling, electronic tolling/Fast Tag lane, cleanliness at toll plazas, staff behaviour, deployment of marshals, cleanliness of toilets, functioning of Highway Nest (Mini), wayside amenities and availability of ambulance and cranes in case of any emergency on the highway, etc.

After the field visit and points given to each of the toll plazas, each of the toll plaza will be ranked, which will be uploaded on NHAI’s website.

“Every quarter, the three best toll plazas will be identified. This will create competitive atmosphere and will improve the amenities and overall convenience for highway users,” said NHAI’s Chairman Deepak Kumar.
