Mumbai Rajdhani to soon run five days a week from CSMT

Mumbai's first Rajdhani from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) could run for five days a week. This would, however, depend on the trial that starts today for next few days. It would also get a lot faster and travel time would reduce too. Adding of two locomotives at each end has been a success till now.

From Saturday, the Central Railway reduced the run time of the Rajdhani Express, between CSMT and Hazrat Nizamuddin station. The original run time of the train was over 19 hours, which will now be a little less than 18 hours. The train will now depart CSMT at 4.10 pm instead of 2.50 pm; and shall reach its destination at 10.05 am the next day. "This is just a trial that will go on for a few days now," said Sunil Udasi, Chief PRO, Central Railway.

According to CR officials, the train has been saving a lot of time since the push-pull method was adopted in February. The method helps the train navigate the ghat sections, without stopping. The push-pull method involves attaching an engine at the front and at the back of the train, instead of attaching two engines at the front.

Moreover they will be running for five days a week. The Rajdhani will leave from CSMT every Wednesday and Saturday at 2.50 pm and arrive at Hazrat Nizamuddin at 10.20 am the next morning. It will depart Hazrat Nizamuddin every Thursday and Sunday at 4.15 pm and arrive at CSMT at 11.55 am. After 27-years, Mumbai got a new Rajdhani train in January, which until now has seen a decent demand from passengers.
