It was a mixed bag for daughters of late leaders in the local body elections in Kerala, results of which were declared on Saturday. Former Chief Minister E K Nayanar's daugther and LDF candidate Usha Praveen suffered a defeat in the election to the city corporation. The result gave the Congress-led UDF a decisive mandate to rule Kerala's bustling business hub.

Usha was defeated by her nearest Congress rival David Parambithara, son of former Kerala Assembly speaker Alexander Parambithara from the Ravipuram division. During the campaign, Usha, a housewife, had said she has no political experience other than being related to the late Nayanar.

M V Girija, daughter of late Communist Marxist Party (CMP) leader M V Raghavan, who contested from Kizhunna ward in Kannur corporation on a CPI(M) ticket, lost to her nearest rival and UDF's Mayoral candidate Suma Balakrishnan.

However, Sarada Mohan, daughter of another late CPI leader and former Chief Minister P K Vasudevan Nair, won from Kalady division of Ernakulam district Panchayat.
