In what could be a major security breach, a 22-year-old youth shot himself inside the centrally located Rajiv Chowk metro station on Thursday night. The youth, identified as Shibesh, was admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital with a bullet injury to his shoulder.

The youth is said to be a native of Fatehpur Sikri in Uttar Pradesh. Initial probe reveals he was headed to a private hospital in the city where his father is admitted. Police are also scanning the CCTV footages of the two metro stations to ascertain the exact sequence of events.

Metro Authorities told dna questioning of some passengers has revealed that the youth boarded a metro train from Chandni Chowk metro station and if these claims are found to be true, it could effectively mean that the man sneaked in a pistol into a metro train compartment.

"The man suddenly shot himself near gate number three inside Rajiv Chowk metro station around 9.30 pm. Security personnel rushed him to a hospital," said Hemendra Singh, PRO (CISF). According to police the youth made no attempts to shoot anyone else and the situation was normalised soon.

Police also said that no suicide note was recovered from Shibesh's possession so far.
