Lucknow University closed sine die after outsiders thrash teachers inside campus, molest students

Authorities have decided to close Lucknow University sine die after outsiders created ruckus and thrashed teachers inside the varsity campus on Wednesday. The indefinite closure has affected the counseling for new admission.

About 50 outsiders barged into the campus and indulged in violence and heavy brick-batting. They thrashed faculty members, staff, as well as students and molested some girl students. The Proctor, Dean of Social Work and Dean Faculty of Arts sustained injuries when these outsiders thrashed them badly.

The police posted in the campus remained a mute spectator. After an hour additional force was rushed and many of these students from outside were taken into the custody. 

These outsiders are students, belonging to AISA and Samajwadi Party Youth wing, were protesting against the varsity administration’s decision to deny admissions in PG courses to candidates who had showed black flags to the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on June 7 last year.

The University Vice-Chancellor S.P. Singh has apprised the  Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Dinesh Sharma about the violence in the campus and attack on faculty members. The V-C declared the varsity closed for an indefinite period. “We will not open till adequate security was provided to faculty members and students,” said the VC.
