Lucknow District Magistrate Raj Shekhar on Saturday confirmed that five persons were killed and 14 others got injured in the fireworks factory blast that occurred earlier this morning in Mohanlalganj area.

He also informed that the injured are currently undergoing treatment at the King George's Medical University. "Fourteen injured were immediately rushed to the civil hospital and some who were severely injured have been sent to King George's Medical University's (KGMU's) trauma center; all are admitted and undergoing treatment," said Rajshekhar. "Three are in civil hospital where the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is himself present and examining their treatment. According to the preliminary report there are five casualties and investigation is on," he added.

He also said that a detailed investigation in the matter was being done by an officer of the Additional District Magistrates (ADM) rank and an attempt is being made to keep a check on such factories and shift the people from such places to a safer place.

An eyewitness of the blast, Monu, criticized the police for their late arrival at the accident spot, saying that the police came one and a half hours late and did not offer any help. He said the police even abused the villagers who were trying to help. "Only two police constables came, they didn't help in picking up the bodies also, and didn't even call for the JCB also, instead the village head called for it," he added.

He also explained that he saw some smoke blowing out of the factory and the bulbs inside the factory had also fallen about 200 meters away. "I was 150 meters away from the factory when I saw a man, whose body had caught fire, coming out of the factory. The noise was such that a cylinder blast has taken place," Monu added.
