Kumbh mela begins in Nasik today

The much awaited Simhastha Kumbh parva, the Kubh mela begins on Tuesday morning at 6.16am, when Jupiter (Bruhaspati), Sun and the Moon enter the Leo constellation (Simha rashi). Simhastha Kumbhmela will begin with a flag hoisting, in the presence of union home minister Rajnath Singh and Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. The flag known as Dharma Dwaja - will be hoisted at Kushwarta teertha at around 6.13 am, by Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Juna Peethadhishwar Awadeshanand Maharaj from Haridwar.

The flag hoisting at Nashik will be done at Ramkund in the presence of gaurdian minister of Nashik Girish Mahajan. The Nashik Dharma Dwaja will be hoisted at Ramkund at 6.16 am. The flag has symbolic significance and announces the beginning of the parva - the period, It will be lowered only after the mega event is over after a year.

The flag hoisting will be done after Mantra ghosh, Ganesh poojan, punnyahavachan, poojan of Indra dvevata, dishadwickpal, dharma dhwaja, and prayers for safety and security of the nation. "Prayers will also be made to the gods to protect from natural disasters like heavy rains, drought, earthquake, etc," stated the president of Shree Ganga Godavari Panchkothi Purohit Sangh, Nashik.

At both Nashik and Trimbakeshwar, grand processions of the Dharma dhwaja were taken out on Monday. In Trimbakeshwar, the procession began at 3 pm, accompanied by a dhol pathak, palkhi of Ganpati, Dhwaja rath, palkhi of Trimbakeshwar, Parvati palkhi, bhajan mandals and lazim groups. It passed through the lanes of the temple town and reached Kushawarta.

In Nashik the procession began from Kalaram temple with the aarti of Prabhu Ramchandra. The procession which had 20 tableaus, was accompanied by lazim, dhol and music. Several social and spiritual organizations also participated in the procession. The pujan and start of the procession was done by Mahant Gyandas maharj. Gurumauli Anna Saheb More and Prajapati BramhaKumari, along with their large number of followers, also participated in the procession. The procession was welcomed at places with huge rangolis and flower showers and reached Ramkund where the maha arti of river Godavari was done. The procession also sets the stage for the flag hoisting on Tuesday.
