Kolhapur reaches lofty heights with India’s second-tallest flag

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis hoisted a 303-feet high national flag — considered the second-tallest flag in the country — in Kolhapur on Monday.

A special helicopter that showered flowers from the sky was deployed for the occasion. Actor Akshay Kumar, Kolhapur’s Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil and other ministers and MLAs were present during the event.

The flag, erected at the police ground in Kolhapur city, measures 60x90 feet. Almost 5,400 sq m of cloth was used to make it.

“Such a high flag can be seen from anywhere in the city and will inspire the people, instilling patriotism in them,” said a statement issued by the CM’s office.

The Wagah border has the tallest flag in India. It’s 307 feet tall.
