The Kerala police seem to have turned moral police as another incident came to light on Wednesday. A report in the Malayala Manorama states that a youth has now alleged that he was picked up by the police in Palakkad for spending time with his girlfriend.

The daily reports that Prasad, who hails from Palode near Mannarkkad and is a freelance video editor, has alleged he was with his girlfriend at Vatika, a public park near Palakkad Fort. He says he was sitting there with her when he was picked up by the Palakkad south police station on February 24. He was released on bail the next day. Prasad reportedly did not realise a case had been framed against him till he received the summons on March 25. The summons came from the station and it was then he knew that he was charged with KP Act 119(a) which is against insulting women in public places.

On Tuesday, Prasad on his Facebook posted a picture of the summons and a copy of the complaint and he had drafted to file with the district police chief against the cops reports the daily. Prasad has narrated the entire incident on his Facebook page. He has stated that he was picked up by the police at 4.30 pm from the park where he was sitting with his girlfriend. When they asked what he was doing he said he was sitting with his girlfriend. On the way to the police station, one of the cops allegedly chided him for the calling the girl his girlfriend in public. Prasad states he cooperated with the police and they let him go after two of his friends came to the station.

Speaking to the daily, Prasad has said the police never mentioned the world bail and he never knew he would be slapped with a case. He has stated he was sending his complaint to the Kerala police chief on Wednesday. He alleges that the police framed charges and they did not tell him what the charges were too. He told the daily that such moral policing incidents are common at Vatika.

When the daily contacted the Palakkad police they confirmed that a case had been filed against Prasad and that they were not aware that case details were not shared with him.
