A day after the brutal attack on the Tanzanian student in Bengaluru came to limelight, Karnataka Home Minister G Parmeshwara on Thursday refuted the victim's allegation that she was stripped and paraded naked.

Addressing media, G Parmeshwara said, "According to prima facie reports, the Tanzanian student was not stripped and paraded naked."

The minister further added, "The attack was not a racist attack, it was just a response to an accident. Bengaluru doesn't have such kind of attitude."

He also said that that five accused are being interrogated by police officials and added that the state government has informed the ministry of external affairs about the incident.

A Tanzanian woman student was allegedly beaten up and stripped by a mob in a case of 'mistaken identity' after a woman was mowed down by a car, prompting the authorities of the East African country to raise the matter with the Indian government.

Further stating that the government is taking this case very seriously, he added, "If the Sudanese man had not killed someone in an accident maybe this incident wouldn't have happened."

"There are 12,000 foreign students in Bengaluru, their protection is our duty. These kinds of incidents should not happen," the home minister added.

G Parmeshwara also claimed that Sudan's Mohammad Ismail was driving under the influence of liquor and he hit K Sanaullah and his wife, in which the woman died on the spot.

Meanwhile, reacting to the incident, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj had on Wednesday said, "We are deeply pained over the shameful incident" and that she has spoken to Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah and requested him to ensure stringent punishment to the guilty."
