Indore: Sterilisation camp for dogs held

A city-based NGO ‘Helping Hands for Animals’ organised a sterilisation and health camp in Palasia area to check growth of stray dogs and treat them for any disease.

Various residential localities face stray dog menace and the NGO’s efforts will go a long way in curbing it.

The camp organised at Dey community hall and dogs were brought to the camp, where vasectomy of male dogs was conducted. 

The dogs were also treated with vaccination to help them get rid of rabies and to reduce the chances of people getting such deadly disease.

Mayor Krishnamurari Moghe visited the camp to take part in the initiative. He appreciated the NGO’s work while promising them support.

Henna Dey of the NGO said, “Our society will be incomplete if these animals get extinct. I request the people of the city to take initiatives for these animals.”

The medicines and vaccination needed during the camp was provided by Indore Municipal Corporation.

Divyani Kanchkar from the NGO said that the relocation of these animals should be checked as it creates a threat to their life and increases the risk of dog-bite cases.

‘According to circular issued by government relocation of dogs is banned. When the dogs are dislocated from their usual location they start behaving hostile as they are unfamiliar to the new location,” She added.
