In a recent development, the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed on Friday that India has asked Pakistan to extradite Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) founder Hafiz Saeed. He is a wanted man in the country for various terror activities, including the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

Bagchi stated that the request along with certain documents seeking Saeed's extradition was sent to Islamabad recently.

During a press conference, MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, "The person in question is wanted in numerous cases in India. He is also a UN-proscribed terrorist. In this regard, we have conveyed a request along with relevant supporting documents to the Government of Pakistan to extradite him to India to face trial in a particular case. We have been flagging the issue of activities, that he's been wanted for. This is a recent request..."

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry earlier declined to comment on the matter and said, "The question is based on speculative reporting. We would not like to comment on such reports."

Saeed continues to operate freely from within Pakistan and remains a wanted terrorist in India.

Recently, his son, Talha Saeed, said that he will stand for the upcoming Pakistan general elections.

Saeed co-founded the terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and was the key man behind the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai.
