India, China explore possibility of making films together

India had participated as a focus country in the 2nd Silk Road International Film Festival last year and a delegation from I&B Ministry and Directorate of Film Festivals attended the event.

India and China on Friday the discussed possibility of jointly producing and distributing films in the two countries.

Information and Broadcasting Secretary Sunil Arora met Yang Yue, President, Fuzhou People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and his delegation members and discussed co-production of films and import of more Indian movies to China, a Ministry release said.

Arora proposed that an MoU between National Film Development Corporation and its Chinese counterpart may be explored for joint production and distribution of films. "Yang Yue agreed to look into the matter further. He invited Indian representatives to visit Fuzhou for the 3rd Silk Road International Film Festival," the release said.

India had participated as a focus country in the 2nd Silk Road International Film Festival last year and a delegation from I&B Ministry and Directorate of Film Festivals attended the event. India and China signed an audio-visual co-production agreement in September, 2014.

Three Chinese films--'Lost in India', 'Kung Fu Yoga' and 'Xuan Zang'-- were permitted to be shot in India recently. The film 'Xuan Zang' was a co-production between Chinese Film Company Ltd. and Eros (India) International and 'Kung Fu Yoga' is currently being filmed in India.
