Independence Day: Delhi police awards 12 girls for bravery

Twelve brave girls who fought against chain snatchers and eve teasers were awarded today by Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi on the occasion of Independence Day at the Police Headquarters here.

Twelve brave girls who fought against chain snatchers and eve teasers were awarded today by Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi on the occasion of Independence Day at the Police Headquarters here.

The girls, 7 from Central and 5 from North Delhi, were awarded for the their acts of bravery in fighting against chain and mobile snatchers as well as eve teasers, said S K Gautam, Joint Commissioner of Police, Central Range. The girls were rewarded at the flag hoisting ceremony at Police Headquarters. They have been issued Commendation Rolls along with cash rewards, he said.

In recent times, self defence programmes have been organised by the Central district police. School and College girls have been given self defence training through 15 days crash course which got a remarkable response from them, Gautam said.

Operation 'Shishtachar' launched in the Central and North districts has also instilled confidence among the girls.Under the operation, the lady police officers deployed at public places and roads in civvies catch eve-teasers who are also provided counselling, he added.
