Ill Sonia Gandhi rushed to hospital; concerned PM Modi reaches out

Congress President Sonia Gandhi who was campaigning in Varanasi had to cut short her visit after she fell ill and doctors advised her to return to Delhi.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi was rushed to Army Research and Referral Hospital in Delhi as soon as she reached the national capital from Varanasi. Chief Medical Officer Varanasi BB Singh flew down to Delhi on Tuesday night with Sonia.

Sonia Gandhi cut short her campaigning in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's turf Varanasi on Tuesday after she fell ill. Doctors advised her to return to Delhi. However, the Congress President's flight was delayed after she was given urgent treatment at Varanasi airport's VIP lounge and was on drip.

PM Modi called up former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit to enquire about Sonia's health and sent a plane for her transportation back to the national capital. 

69-year-old Gandhi had to cut short the roadshow towards the fag end of the eight-km march route this evening after she fell ill as it wound through the streets of the temple town for nearly three hours.

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad had earlier said that it was dehydration that caused her fever.
