'My name is Umar Khalid, and I am not a terrorist," is what Umar Khalid said as soon as he resurfaced after going missing following Kanhaiya Kumar's arrest over sedition charges. Khalid was one of the six students accused of raising 'anti-national' slogans at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

Khalid addressed his supporters late on Sunday night upon his return. He said that he was hurt by the way his sister was targetted on social media.

He also refuted all reports about him having made '800 calls to Gulf or Kashmir' few days prior to the program organised at JNU. Khalid said that he was amused by the way media said that he had 'visited Pakistan two times, when actually he doesn't have a passport.'

He also condemned the his media trial. "The media, all this while, presented a lot of things about me. The media trial, this propaganda... I know what my family is going through," he said.

The five students who went missing since were- Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya, Rama Naga, Ashutosh Kumar and Anant Prakash.

Delhi Police Commissioner Bhim Sain Bassi on Monday asked the students, who surfaced on Sunday night, to join the join probe and present evidence of their innocence.

"I would say if the police is looking for them then they should join the police investigation. And if they are innocent, they should present evidence of their innocence," Bassi said.

When asked if the police would enter the JNU campus to arrest the students, the top cop said that his men are competent enough to deal with the situation.

"The investigating officer would exercise the best available option. As far as the Delhi Police is concerned, we always aim for maintaining the law and order situation of the city," he added.

He further said that the police entering the JNU campus won't deteriorate the situation in the varsity.

"I don't want to comment on what the students told the media, the officers of the Delhi Police are competent enough to deal with it," he added.
