NEW DELHI: Two immigration officers posted at the international airport here have been suspended following the arrest of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP in a human trafficking racket.

The officials, an inspector and a constable, were suspended Saturday after a departmental inquiry conducted by the Bureau of immigration found the duo responsible for the "smooth" passage given to Babubhai Katara on three occasions earlier.

"Inspector Premchand and constable Rajbir were suspended after the inquiry," a senior official said.

According to the official, immigration checks at the airports are jointly controlled by officials of Delhi Police and the immigration bureau under the administrative control of the latter.

Katara, the MP from Gujarat's Dahod constituency, was arrested April 18 at the airport while allegedly trying to smuggle out a woman and a teenaged boy to Toronto on the diplomatic passports of his wife and son.
