On Saturday, Former Miss World Diana Hayden delivered a baby girl born out of an egg she froze eight years ago.

The birth of Arya Hayden's is confirmation that egg freezing works and could help women, especially in India from the worry that their running out of time to be a mother.

The 42-year-old who reportedly gave birth in the Surya Mother and Child Hospital in Santa Cruz, told a leading daily, women can now not feel the pressure to get married early or have a baby for when one is isn't ready. Hayden was 32 when she decided to freeze her eggs after reading about it in 2006. She froze 16 eggs between the October 2007 and March 2008.

When Hayden married American Collin Dick two years ago, she learned she had endometriosis: a condition resulting from the appearance of endometrial tissue outside the womb, making it difficult for women to produce quality eggs.

That is when Hayden and Collin decided to attempt a test-tube baby and thaw Diana's frozen eggs. Arya weighed 3.7kg and was 55cm long. The average weight and length in India are 2.6kg and 48cm. Infertility specialist Dr Firuza Parikh reveals "egg freezing has become a standardised procedure and is likely to become common among women who want to defer childbirth."

However, egg freezing is still a controversial matter. A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association reveals the process of freezing and thawing could damage eggs and reduce a woman's chance of becoming a mother. The study, looked at 93% of all donor IVF cycles in the US in 2013 and found women had a 56% chance of becoming mothers with fresh eggs, while only 47% with frozen eggs.
