Arjun Vajpai has finally succeeded in scaling the fifth highest mountain in the world, Makalu. He made summit at 12:24 pm on Monday afternoon.

Vajpai was overwhelmed with happiness as his climb was successful on its fourth attempt. The expedition in 2015 was called off following the natural disaster in which sherpas – the ethnic mountain community – and international climbers died.

The summit of Makalu meant that Arjun also set a world record for being the youngest climber to have made it to the summit of 4 peaks above 800 metres.

“I am delighted to announce my summit of Makalu Monday morning. I am overcome with emotions because this mountain has denied me thrice in a row and it is an accomplishment to stand on top of it after a struggle,” the Noida-based mountaineer said via social media after a 13-hour climb.
