Dussehra celebrated in Kashmir Valley

Kashmiri Pandits restarted celebrating the festival in the Valley after the gap of 20 years in 2007 and the celebrations are an annual feature since then.

Dussehra, the festival signifying the victory of good over evil, was celebrated with religious fervour and enthusiasm in Kashmir Valley on Thursday. Kashmiri Pandits and Hindus burnt giant effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnath installed at Polo ground in Srinagar.

Hundreds of people, including women and children braved restrictions imposed by police and thronged the ground to witness the fireworks and the ritual of burning the effigies this evening.

Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, accompanied by several cabinet colleagues, was also present at the celebrations. The event was organised by Kashmiri Pandits Sangarsh Samiti (KPSS). Dussehra is celebrated on the culmination of nine days of Navratras.
