Despite the Maharashtra government showing readiness to revoke the suspension of MLAs, the Opposition has decided to carry on with its Sangharsh Yatra, being launched from Chandrapur on Wednesday (March 29).

The stalemate in the state assembly continued on Saturday with none of the Opposition MLAs present in the House.

However after a meeting with leaders of Opposition in legislative council held at the Upper House with presiding officer Ramraje Naik-Nimbalkar, the Opposition attended the business of legislative council to complete financial business related to the Budget and passed the Appropriation Bill.

After hectic parleys in the chamber of the Leader of Opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, the Opposition leaders requested Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Girish Bapat to come to his chamber for the meeting. Bapat had a meeting with Vikhe-Patil and Dilip Walase-Patil and Jayant Patil. The meeting was also attended by Minister Prakash Mehta.

Bapat said he had made a statement in the House stating the readiness of Government to revoke the suspension. But at the same time, Bapat made it clear that since suspension was House business, it could only be revoked in the House and the leader of Opposition would have to request this in the House on Wednesday for the same.

Making a statement in the House Bapat said that the Opposition was as important as Treasury benches and the chariot can't be run only by using one wheel. Bapat said that Government  understands importance of Opposition and that is why keeping the traditions of the House where suspensions have been revoked in the past, Government was positive on this.

Vikhe-Patil as well as former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and NCP leader Jayant patil made it clear that the Opposition had already boycotted the House by terming the suspension as unconstitutional. Chavan maintained, "Even though government is appealing to attend the House on Wednesday, we would be in Chandrapur on Wednesday too launch Sangharsh Yatra for loan waiver for farmers in the state.'

Meanwhile, government sources said that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is insisting that those who set ablaze the Budget papers should not be spared. While Opposition is insisting that suspension of all the 19 MLAs should be revoked together, it is likely that the government will revoke suspension in two stages by revoking suspension of 9 or 10 MLAs on March 29 and that of the remaining MLAs in the first week of April. The session will come to an end on April 7.
