Centre keen on enhancing cross-LoC trade with Pakistan

The Centre on Friday said its is keen on strengthening the Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) with Pakistan and enhance cross-LoC trade in Jammu and Kashmir. "The government is keen to strengthen the CBMs with Pakistan and as a part of CBMs, cross-LoC trade is being strengthened and expanded," said L C Goyal, Union Home Secretary, who visited the trade facilitation centre near the Line of Control in Uri sector of Kashmir.

Goyal also chaired a review meeting at Salamabad centre and asked concerned officers to strictly adhere to the Standing Operating Procedures laid down for cross-LoC Trade, an official spokesman said. During the meeting, he said various issues pertaining to development of additional infrastructure as well as increasing the number of tradable items and improving communication facilities were also discussed.

Goyal also met delegation of cross-LoC traders at the TFC and assured them that the government would make every effort to overcome the difficulties being faced by them. The Union Home Secretary was accompanied by a high level team of officials including state Financial Commissioner Industries and Commerce Department Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, Director General of State Police K Rajindra, Principal Secretary Home Department, Joint Secretary Union Ministry of Home Affairs and Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir.

Later, the Union Home Secretary also visited the Kaman post, the last military post from this side which connects Srinagar and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
