Bullet-proof screens installed at Attari-Wagah border: Centre

Two rolling bullet proof screens have been placed along the Indo-Pak International Border at Attari, government informed Parliament on Wednesday. Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said "two improvised rolling bullet proof screens of 8'X 8' size have been placed besides the iron gates installed at international border of Attari."

"These rolling bullet proof screens can be rolled and placed in front of Attari gate to prevent any small arm fire from across the border or from the stray splinters in case of suicide bombing near the border," he said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha. 

He, however, added there was "no proposal under consideration to bulletproof the gates at the international border of Attari, Hussainiwala and Sadqi." At least 60 people were killed and nearly 200 injured when a suicide attacker detonated a powerful bomb at Wagah in Pakistan in November last year, minutes after the popular flag-lowering ceremony at the main Indo-Pak land border crossing.
