BSF seizes 5.5 kg Pakistan-smuggled heroin per day since October 8

BSF Deputy Inspector General of Punjab Frontier R S Kataria said Pakistani attempts to smuggle heroin into India have been foiled by the alert jawans.

The BSF has registered a sudden spike in the volume of heroin being smuggled into India from Pakistan through Punjab border with the seizure of on an average 5.5 kg of the drug everyday for the last 10 days.

According to the data, 54 kg heroin worth Rs 270 crore in the international market has been seized from Amritsar and Ferozpur sectors between October 8 and 17, BSF Deputy Inspector General of Punjab Frontier R S Kataria said. He said that they seized heroin everyday except on October 9, 13 and 16.

Katariya said Pakistani attempts to smuggle heroin into India have been foiled by the alert jawans.

The senior official said that till now this year the BSF has recovered around 248 kg heroin worth Rs 1240 crore in the international market along the International Border area from across the state.
