Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Arvind Kejriwal's challenger from the New Delhi constituency, Nupur Sharma, on Saturday lashed out at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief by comparing him to a monkey.

"He [Arvind Kejriwal] is hopping from one branch to other, I am sorry, but monkey does that. But I am speaking directly," Nupur told ANI, although clarifying later that she had made a comparison over his jumping around the place. "I am not calling him… I am making a comparison between the fact that why are you jumping around the place. Be stable. You don't have the stability," she added.
The former Delhi University's Student Union president questioned Kejriwal's commitment, asking how many elections he will fight in a year.
"Who is opportunistic? First let him [Arvind Kejriwal] decide… First, he ran after New Delhi to become the CM, and then he ran to Varanasi to become the PM then again ran back to Delhi… When did he work? How many elections will he fight in one year? Where is his commitment?" she asked.
Nupur further said the AAP chief had himself asked to boycott Republic Day celebrations last year. "Last year he himself said boycott 26th January, there couldn't be a bigger anti-nationalist stand."
The BJP leader also spoke out in support of her party's chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi, and added that it was a case of sour grapes for Kejriwal.
"This is not opportunism. Kiran Bedi has done many things by sticking to one place. Show by sticking to one place. People voted you for five years. Why did not you work? Within one year he went to fight three elections… he wanted power however. This is called opportunism," Nupur said. "It's a case of sour grapes. Just because Kiran Bedi ji did not join AAP, he had a heart-break," she added.
Delhi goes to polls on February 7 and the counting is scheduled for February 10.
