Rajasthan police has suspended acting station in-charge Ramgarh and sent to lines three constables for ‘not taking correct decisions’ in the Akbar Khan lynching matter. Senior officials had reached Ramgarh police station on Monday to undertake an inquiry.

Rajasthan police has suspended acting station in-charge Ramgarh and sent to lines three constables for ‘not taking correct decisions’ in the Akbar Khan lynching matter. Senior officials had reached Ramgarh police station on Monday to undertake an inquiry.
The action comes after home minister Gulab Chand Kataria had ordered a high-level inquiry into the allegations of police delaying that have come forward in the Akbar lynching case. A high-level panel of senior officers had been formed to investigate the same.
“We want to verify the facts of the allegations that are coming forward. Three officials have been sent to Ramgarh to investigate. And if such an incident has taken place we will take action against the guilty,” said Kataria speaking to media at Udaipur.
Thereafter DGP O P Galhotra has issued an order for conducting a thorough investigation into all aspects of the incident. A high-level team comprising SPL DG Law and Order NRK Reddy. ADG CID(CB) P K Singh and ADG Jaipur Hemant Priyadarshi and IG was formed for the same. The team will investigate into all allegations regarding delay in taking injured Akbar to the hospital and circumstances surrounding the delay and submit a report. The team reached Ramgarh and went to the spot where the incident took place.

The team then held a meeting and conducted an inquiry at the Ramgarh police station. After questioning the policemen NRK Reddy ordered the suspension of station in-charge Mohan Singh and sent to lines three constables. The four had gone to Lalwandi village where Akbar was being beaten after receiving information.
“They did not take correct decision. It was error of judgement on their part.” said Reddy explaining the reason for the action to the media.

A video footage that went viral on social media added to the police’s troubles. The footage has acting station incharge Mohan Singh saying that he made a mistake. After the footage went viral police found itself pushed in a tight corner and action on the policemen became essential.

Further adding to difficulty for police a CCTV footage has come forward showing police jeep going on a road towards the station. The footage from a camera placed on a private hospital; Muskan hospital which is situated on the road that leads towards both the hospital and thana. The footage showing timing of 3.47 am and shows an auto carrier followed by the police jeep going towards the thana. This was when police were returning to the thana after leaving the cows at the shelter. Akbar was at the police station at that time. The footage corroborates with the doctor’s statement that Akbar was brought to Ramgarh CHC at 4.00 am. This footage too served to implicate the police.
POLITICAL CONTROVERSY
The matter has blown into a political controversy in the communally sensitive Mevat area of Alwar. The Mev community has staged a protest in Ramgarh and put forth demand for the arrest of all persons involved in beating up Akbar. They have also demanded that prompt action be taken against the policemen who did not take Akbar to the hospital on time.
On the other hand, Hindu bodies Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena and VHP also held a meeting at Ramgarh where resentment was expressed over police arresting those who had informed about the incident. They demanded release of those persons and action against the guilty policemen. Local villagers too are upset with the police over the arrests.

Villagers who live close to the spot where Akbar was attacked have said that they saw policemen beating him. Maya a woman living close by said “I heard crying sound in the night and went out and saw a police jeep. The policemen were beating and abusing a man.”
CONGRESS DEMANDS ACTION -
Former chief minister Ashok Geholt has demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident. While PCC chief Sachin Pilot has sought a judicial probe.
THREE ARRESTED SENT TO 5 DAY JUDICIAL REMAND -
The three persons who were arrested on charges of lynching Akbar; Dharmendra Yadav, Paramjeet Singh and Naresh Singh; have been remanded to judicial custody.
