Actor-turned-politician Roopa Ganguly was allegedly heckled and manhandled by Trinamool Congress supporters on Tuesday.

She was campaigning for the upcoming Kolkata Municipal Corporation polls at ward 74 in Alipore for the BJP candidate.

Ganguly’s car was vandalised and her driver was allegedly beaten up by these Trinamool Congress supporters. “Trinamool Congress supporters including women supporters were pelting stones on us and hurling abuses. This is the sorry state of West Bengal. This is how women are treated,” said Ganguly.

It was 5pm, when Ganguly reached the venue of the meeting and saw that the background, hoarding and banners were torn, with some Trinamool Congress flags replacing the BJP flags. “No matter how bad a state, the stage was in; I told my party supporters that I will address the gathering. When I got on the stage, they tried breaking down the stage so that I fall off. With prolonged protests by these Trinamool Congress supporters, the police requested me to step down the stage,” added Ganguly.

Immediately, the senior leadership rushed to the spot and they have filed a complaint with the West Bengal State Election Commission and Kolkata Police.
