Zone 1 squad of the city police on Friday raided a shop near Income Tax crossroads and nabbed 5 girls from there allegedly for prostitution.

According to the Zone 1 DCP, 5 girls, a manager Raju Shah, two customers Dharmesh Dave and Vijay Sanghvi, and a domestic help Ambalal were apprehended during the raid at a shop in Vasupujya complex at Income Tax crossroads. On the basis of a tip-off, the squad busted the racket, which was running under the guise of a beauty parlour. The shop was being run without any name.

Other shop owners in the complex said they were under the impression that a beauty parlour was being run in the shop. However, some shop keepers and regular visitors to the complex were suspicious about the activities at the parlour. One of them said: "We were suspicious about illegal activities being conducted inside the parlour as girls dressed up in flashy clothes were seen inside the parlour the entire day and men used to regularly visit the place."

According to shop owners, the illegal business had being going on for a long time, but no one had bothered to check till it was raided on Friday. When police queried the manager about the girls, he couldn't give a satisfactory answer.

Police are investigating the matter.
