Film: Wazir

Starring: Farhan Akhtar, Amitabh Bachchan, Aditi Rao Hydari, Manav Kaul, Neil Nitin Mukesh, John Abraham

Director: Bejoy Nambiar

The Plot:
Revolving around the lives of two people- one ATS officer (Farhan Akhtar) and one Kashmiri Pundit who's a retired chess master (Amitabh Bachchan), Wazir takes elements from 'Chess' and poignantly creates a world where the lives of the two leading men collide. And that happens as they bond over a similar cause- the loss of their loved ones. Their missions tend to be the same- nailing the culprit. Another cat and mouse chase tale, Wazir is an interesting, intriguing and gripping thriller presented by Bejoy Nambiar and Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

The reviews have already poured in for the film and

Indian Express:

"There are many good things about ‘Wazir’. First off, this is a film that’s backed by writing. Look, look, a plot. Hallelujah. Such a relief after so many plotless wonders masquerading as movies. Next, it brings back the actor in Amitabh Bachchan. And third, it respects our time, keeping things ticking at just over a neat 1.5 hours."

Catch News:
"Whodunits and thrillers are, by nature, very interactive genres. They thrive on the filmmaker's ability to involve viewers, inviting them to second-guess themselves and make a slew of predictions. Casting is an important part of this Cluedo scenario. When you see Mr. Bachchan with a ridiculously twirled moustache, Neil Nitin Mukesh's hamming chalk-white face, or Kaul's distinctly antagonistic smirks, it's obvious from the get-go where things are headed. It's made worse by the fact that the writer, who is also the editor and producer, insists on inserting overeager flashbacks (sometimes, from three minutes ago) to make sure every motivation is explained in grave detail. Again and again. From different angles."

Firstpost:
"Wazir has three heroes. Bachchan and Akhtar, of course, who are so effective individually and together that we wonder why they haven’t been cast together before. But the third and bigger hero of Wazir is the deviously clever script. Written by producer Vinod Chopra, along with Abhijat Joshi (of Munnabhai fame), this is quite comfortably the best emotional thriller from Bollywood in years.
Our heart never stops leaping into our mouths at the twists and turns that the characters encounter in their journey towards an apocalyptic finale. The narrative displays the kind of fluent unpredictable and original writing that we would like to see more often in Hindi cinema."

NDTV:

"Wazir is supposed to be a suspense-filled thriller. While it does deliver a few thrills, especially in the slickly mounted and crisply edited first quarter, the intrigue it seeks to weave around its two pivotal characters simply does not cut deep enough. It has its share of twists and turns, but barring the final gambit that spins the tale on its head, none of it is particularly startling. Several of the surprises that it attempts to spring do not quite come off. The reason: they aren’t surprises at all. The audience can see them coming from miles away."
