This year has been rather dull, box office wise. With only 3 films in the Rs 100 crore list (Airlift, Fan and Housefull 3) and none crossing the Rs 200 crore mark, 2016 needs more films to bring in great business. The industry has been running at a loss currently and all eyes are on Salman Khan's Sultan to bring in some relief.

The advance bookings for Sultan has been record-breaking already. While Salman's previous best was around Rs 15 crore in its advance booking (Prem Ratan Dhan Payo), with Sultan, the film has already received a thunderous response with Rs 22-23 crore coming in from advance bookings itself. Plus, the film has opened to housefull shows all around the nation.

Since the morning shows, the occupancy of the film at all centres have been extraordinary. The trade pundits are already predicting a bombastic opening for the film. While PRDP raked in around Rs 39 crore on its first day, recording the highest ever opening day collections for any Bollywood film, Sultan might surpass that.

Early buzz shows that the film is expected to have an opening of over Rs 40 crore, which is excellent. The film will only pick up on Thursday, given that it's Eid and the 5-day long weekend might help it cross the Rs 150 crore mark in the first weekend itself.
