Sushant Singh Rajput has captivated the audiences' attention from the word go. As Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the biopic on the cricketer. Excitement and buzz around the film is exceedingly high. So are the stakes.

The film releases at around 3500 screens in India itself and another 1000 screens around the world. So with 4500 screens worldwide, it's the second highest release of the year, after Salman Khan's Sultan. Given the immense hype around the film and MS Dhoni's exceeding fan following waiting to watch the film, this biopic might be a huge surprise at the ticket windows.

But there's a lot to achieve. According to a reliable source in the trade, the film's budget is really high. Apparently, the cost of making the film is as high as Rs 90-100 crore. That also includes MS Dhoni's  fee. Plus, there's an additional Rs 15 crore which the makers have spent on promotional and print activities. That makes the total budget of the film around Rs 115 crore (approx).

The film has recovered around Rs 10 crore for its music rights. Given that STAR will have the satellite rights to themselves, there's no give and take there. But given the film is tailor made for satellite and TV, it will fetch around Rs 30-35 crore more from the satellite market. That leaves the makers with Rs 70 crore which they have to recover.

And to recover that Rs 70 crore, the film needs to do at least around Rs 140 crore in the domestic market to get the hit tag at the BO. The overseas business will then be a huge surplus for the makers too. So now you know how much the Dhoni biopic needs to fetch at the cash registers.
